In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine. And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives. When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet. And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way. And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
