In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a robber with swords and staves to seize me? I sat daily in the temple teaching, and ye took me not. And the chief priests and the scribes heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, for all the multitude was astonished at his teaching. And every day he was teaching in the temple; and every night he went out, and lodged in the mount that is called Olivet. When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched not forth your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. Did not Moses give you the law, and (yet) none of you doeth the law? Why seek ye to kill me? Jesus answered him, I have spoken openly to the world; I ever taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and in secret spake I nothing. And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet. And they sought to lay hold on him; and they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spake the parable against them: and they left him, and went away. And the scribes and and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he spake this parable against them. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death; for they feared the people. For this cause therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only brake the sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God. They sought therefore to take him: and no man laid his hand on him, because his hour was not yet come.
