And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you; yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood. Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways: as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God, they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near unto God. Wherefore have we fasted, (say they), and thou seest not? (wherefore) have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find (your own) pleasure, and exact all your labors. Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root; they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their heart. And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but do them not; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their gain. This people honoreth me with their lips; But their heart is far from me. But in vain do they worship me, Teaching (as their) doctrines the precepts of men. And he said unto them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me. But in vain do they worship me, Teaching (as their) doctrines the precepts of men. (all which things are to perish with the using), after the precepts and doctrines of men?
