They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not. He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night. Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night. The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory. The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass; Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
