I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory. For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles. And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
