And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children. And it came to pass the selfsame day, that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies. And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me, Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die. He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
