They cried unto thee, and were delivered: They trusted in thee, and were not put to shame. Depart from evil, and do good; Seek peace, and pursue it. For thy lovingkindness is great above the heavens; And thy truth (reacheth) unto the skies. Reprove not a scoffer, lest he hate thee: Reprove a wise man, and he will love thee. Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; But he that hateth reproof is brutish. A scoffer loveth not to be reproved; He will not go unto the wise. Smite a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; And reprove one that hath understanding, (and) he will understand knowledge. (As) an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, (So is) a wise reprover upon an obedient ear. Better is open rebuke Than love that is hidden. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; But the kisses of an enemy are profuse. It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
