And all the elders of that city, who are nearest unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley; and they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. Forgive, O Jehovah, thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and suffer not innocent blood (to remain) in the midst of thy people Israel. And the blood shall be forgiven them. So shalt thou put away the innocent blood from the midst of thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah. Remember, O Jehovah, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindness; For they have been ever of old. But they said, Not during the feast, lest a tumult arise among people. saying, I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? see thou (to it). And while he was sitting on the judgment-seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that righteous man; for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. And when they opposed themselves and blasphemed, he shook out his raiment and said unto them, Your blood (be) upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles. Wherefore I testify unto you this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.
