But Jehovah said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for (Jehovah seeth) not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looketh on the heart.
My shield is with God, Who saveth the upright in heart.
There are six things which Jehovah hateth; Yea, seven which are an abomination unto him:
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; But Jehovah weighteth the hearts.
If thou sayest, Behold, we knew not this; Doth not he that weigheth the hearts consider it? And he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? And shall not he render to every man according to his work?
But, O Jehovah of hosts, who judgest righteously, who triest the heart and the mind, I shall see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but inwardly ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor?
And he spake also this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought:
And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show of these two the one whom thou hast chosen,
