And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples whither Jehovah shall lead thee away. I am as one that is a laughing-stock to his neighbor, I who called upon God, and he answered: The just, the perfect man is a laughing-stock. And now I am become their song, Yea, I am a byword unto them. They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, And spare not to spit in my face. When ye lie among the sheepfolds, (It is as) the wings of a dove covered with silver, And her pinions with yellow gold. And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument; for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
