Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate. Is there no balm in Gilead? is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines. Again will I build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: again shalt thou be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry. Set thee up waymarks, make thee guide-posts; set thy heart toward the highway, even the way by which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities. Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: wail for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed. Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, lo, it hath not been bound up, to apply (healing) medicines, to put a bandage to bind it, that it be strong to hold the sword.
