and said, By myself have I sworn, saith Jehovah, because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son, Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. therefore will I do unto the house which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh. But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched. And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah: If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you, then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth. Why hast thou prophesied in the name of Jehovah, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant? And all the people were gathered unto Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah. Wherefore my wrath and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day. For I have sworn by myself, saith Jehovah, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes. Jehovah of hosts hath sworn by himself, (saying), Surely I will fill thee with men, as with the canker-worm; and they shall lift up a shout against thee. Moreover I will make thee a desolation and a reproach among the nations that are round about thee, in the sight of all that pass by. The Lord Jehovah hath sworn by himself, saith Jehovah, the God of hosts: I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces; therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein. Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. For when God made promise to Abraham, since he could swear by none greater, he sware by himself,
