He that is too impoverished for (such) an oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a skilful workman to set up a graven image, that shall not be moved. Who hath declared it from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, (He is) right? yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that showeth, yea, there is none that heareth your words. And when I look, there is no man: even among them there is no counsellor, that, when I ask of them, can answer a word. And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image; he falleth down unto it and worshippeth, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that carry the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. They are like a palm-tree, of turned work, and speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.
