Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Then a breach was made in the city, and all the men of war (fled) by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden (now the Chaldeans were against the city round about); and (the king) went by the way of the Arabah. he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city; and they helped him. So there was gathered much people together, and they stopped all the fountains, and the brook that flowed through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water? And the harp and the lute, the tabret and the pipe, and wine, are (in) their feasts; but they regard not the work of Jehovah, neither have they considered the operation of his hands. Then said Jehovah unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, in the highway of the fuller's field; Hast thou not heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? now have I brought it to pass, that it should be thine to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.
