In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. For this let every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: Surely when the great waters overflow they shall not reach unto him. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding; Whose trappings must be bit and bridle to hold them in, (Else) they will not come near unto thee. For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, (even) his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse: (as it is written, A father of many nations have I made thee) before him whom he believed, (even) God, who giveth life to the dead, and calleth the things that are not, as though they were. For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth compacted out of water and amidst water, by the word of God;
