Now Laban was gone to shear his sheep: and Rachel stole the teraphim that were her father's. And now, (though) thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father's house, (yet) wherefore hast thou stolen my gods? Now Rachel had taken the teraphim, and put them in the camel's saddle, and sat upon them. And Laban felt about all the tent, but found them not. And he said unto them, So be Jehovah with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you. And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their garments. And if it seem evil unto you to serve Jehovah, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah. Now therefore put away, (said he), the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto Jehovah, the God of Israel. And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto Jehovah with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts unto Jehovah, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
