And Pilate said unto the chief priests and the multitudes, I find no fault in this man. and said unto them, Ye brought unto me this man, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I having examined him before you, found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him: And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath this man done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him and release him. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no crime in him. And Pilate went out again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him out to you, that ye may know that I find no crime in him. When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify (him), crucify (him)! Pilate saith unto them, Take him yourselves, and crucify him: for I find no crime in him. but if it is of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found even to be fighting against God. And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And it came to pass, that, when I had returned to Jerusalem, and while I prayed in the temple, I fell into a trance, and saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem; because they will not receive of thee testimony concerning me. But I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death: and as he himself appealed to the emperor I determined to send him. and when they had withdrawn, they spake one to another, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds.
