And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? that they might accuse him. And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him. And he saith unto them, Is it lawful on the sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to kill? But they held their peace. And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath; that they might find how to accuse him. And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath, or not? And they could not answer again unto these things. And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath. If a man receiveth circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are ye wroth with me, because I made a man every whit whole on the sabbath? Now it was the sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was division among them.
