Who knoweth not in all these, That the hand of Jehovah hath wrought this, Hath the rain a father? Or who hath begotten the drops of dew? Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I, Jehovah, the first, and with the last, I am he. Behold, all of them, their works are vanity (and) nought; their molten images are wind and confusion. Ye are my witnesses, saith Jehovah, and my servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. For all these things hath my hand made, and (so) all these things came to be, saith Jehovah: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my word. Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear Jehovah our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in its season; that preserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest. For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe. They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish. It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of Jehovah. Ask ye of Jehovah rain in the time of the latter rain, (even of) Jehovah that maketh lightnings; and he will give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field. For the teraphim have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie; and they have told false dreams, they comfort in vain: therefore they go their way like sheep, they are afflicted, because there is no shepherd.
