Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number. And I put a ring upon thy nose, and ear-rings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thy head. Thou didst also take thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest for thee images of men, and didst play the harlot with them; And furthermore ye have sent for men that come from far, unto whom a messenger was sent, and, lo, they came; for whom thou didst wash thyself, paint thine eyes, and deck thyself with ornaments, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children. As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame. They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity. I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your brides when they commit adultery; for (the men) themselves go apart with harlots, and they sacrifice with the prostitutes; and the people that doth not understand shall be overthrown. According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten me.
