This saying therefore went forth among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, that he should not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what (is that) to thee? And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man and one that feareth God, and well reported of by all the nation of the Jews, was warned (of God) by a holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words from thee. The same was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium. And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the Jews that dwelt there, Moreover he must have good testimony from them that are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. Deacons in like manner (must be) grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Demetrius hath the witness of all (men), and of the truth itself: yea, we also bear witness: and thou knowest that our witness is true.
