For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him; and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, (therefore) will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
Israel (was) holiness unto Jehovah, the first-fruits of his increase: all that devour him shall be held guilty; evil shall come upon them, saith Jehovah.
At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A hot wind from the bare heights in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to winnow, nor to cleanse;
a full wind from these shall come for me: now will I also utter judgments against them.
The king spake and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling-place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?
